I also hate when in Forza the developers are pussies and don’t put in Porsche because EA has some monopolistic licensing bullshit

That’s not really the devs fault, it’s Porsche and EA’s fault. Plus, they try their best by putting in RUF or snapping up the chance to grab the licensing for an expansion pack.

But RUF is shit...

Never minding that, i’m wondering this- in Forza 4, they were able to snag porsche for a limited time in an expansion pack, however it was ludicrously expensive for Microsoft. Did that actually pay off, or did they pull a Lexus LFA and lose money on every one sold?

Given that there hasn’t been a Porsche pack since then, probably a LFA scenario.

My understanding (from what I remember of talks of Porsche during Project CARS and maybe Assetto Corsa development) is that Porsche was not happy that EA let M$ use the license for a fee they way they did, and so it is likely to never happen again.

There hasn't been a Porsche pack because they can't get the licensing for another Porsche pack. The only way they got it for Fourza is because EA didn't renew their deal soon enough (or something to that effect) and lost out. They soon regained control and no other games were allowed to use Porsche's again.

If you say so.

I can't say definitively if they made their money back but I'm sure they didn't lose much. The pack was something like $20 and I'm sure a lot of people bought it.

It doesn’t matter since they were both complaining over money. But its in the past now, while still being silly that thats the reason there were no Porsche lineup.

It was 20 bucks, which is somewhat ironic because that's how much you you can snap up a copy of Fourza for today

So if porsche sees the squabbles that come from giving only one developer the rights, and if they see the brand value in racing games, why do they still bother with that strategy? It’s cocking up on an almost Bernie Ecclestone level
